On Wednesday, April 17th, in Ethiopia, the exhibition “Sustainable Made in Italy: From Haute Couture to Young Designers” opens in celebration of the first National Day of Made in Italy. Organized by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa, in collaboration with Istituto Modartech and Maison Gattinoni Couture, this exhibition honors the excellence of Made in Italy in the fashion industry, highlighting beauty, craftsmanship, productivity, and sustainable innovation.
Running until May 20th, the Creative Exhibition showcases a selection of haute couture garments crafted from recycled materials by the Roman fashion house, including the “Tricolore” dress by Guillermo Mariotto, Creative Director. Alongside these, creations by talents from the Fashion Design degree program focus on reuse and recycling, promoting a culture of sustainability. The projects of young designers result from collaborations with Italian manufacturing districts, utilizing leftover materials or stock remnants, thereby emphasizing certifications from materials to production processes.
This exhibition serves as a testament to environmental stewardship, social equity, and artisanal excellence within the Italian fashion landscape. These values, passed down from historic fashion houses to young designers, represent a blend of contemporary innovation and cultural heritage, embodying the vibrant heart of Italy’s national identity. It has been included in the official calendar of celebratory initiatives recognized by the Ministry of Enterprises for Made in Italy.
