Young designer, from the Fashion Design course, passing through the runways of Mittelmoda The Fashion Award, on TV.
The success of a Fashion School is to be assessed in close relationship with the world of work. One of the flagships of Istituto Modartech training proposal is the three-year course dedicated to the training of the modern fashion designer. We asked three questions to Daria Locchi young stylist, former student of the Fashion Design undergraduate course.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I am Daria Locchi, I am 23 years old and I currently work in Rome at Gattinoni Alta moda. As soon as I finished my studies at Istituto Modartech I started an internship for AX (Armani Exchange), an excellent experience that helped me to realize what I wanted to pursue in the fashion field and for this reason I started looking for companies that worked more than crafts and research with a more creative and manual work system.
In the meantime, I won the Mittelmoda international fashion competition, with the Lectra Prize as award. This gave me the opportunity to attend a software learning course of the same company and to participate in the television program Moda di Moda on Rai2 channel.
So I left for Rome and I was lucky enough to meet the creative director of the Maison Gattinoni. A truly particular and fruitful meeting, so much that immediately after I started an internship that paid off with the hiring.
Within the company I deal with various tasks: I draw and illustrate daily, I do research, I deal with the choice of fabrics and processes and I often try to paint fabrics and create samples.
I have been able to learn a lot and continue to do it, it is an experience in the making for the moment and for the future I hope to grow, move and have different possibilities.
2. What led you to Istituto Modartech and why did you choose it?
I had just finished the Liceo Artistico in Carrara and I had heard about Istituto Modartech from several people but I had never deepened my research.
I was in a phase where I was still not aware of what I wanted to do. There are not many fashion institutes in Italy and they are mostly private and the costs are high.
I therefore delayed until August when I read about the possibility of a competition, a notice of a scholarship promoted by the Istituto Modartech.
I haven’t thought twice! Encouraged by my family, I worked on the project and presented it. At the end of September I got the news … ‘You are the winner of the Anna Monesi scholarship for the best creative skills and you will start the Fashion Design Course’ (it was 2013).
The satisfaction was great and the expectations many more …. I was rewarded for everything.
I can’t really say that I completely ‘chose’ Modartech because the truth is that we both chose each other!
3. What advice would you give to anyone who wants to pursue a career like yours?
My advice, which also represents the main aspects of my character, are: being determined, wanting and believing in one thing are the main inexhaustible sources for reaching a goal.
Being creative, which is hard today, but through a lot of study (history of art, fashion etc.) everyone is able to reinterpret in his own way and give his own vision of each product that should not be neither obvious or trivial. The last tip is to get involved as much as possible, to be aware of your limits, but to work hard to improve and overcome them.
Good luck to all!!!
