Working in fashion is the arrival point of every young fashion designer.
More and more companies are hiring creative talents in this sector: a brand symbol of Made in Italy and a luxury maison that have established themselves over time in the firmament of fashion.
In order to emerge and become part of the team of the great fashion brands, tenacity, resourcefulness and a series of essential skills are required which are guaranteed at the end of the three-year post-diploma course in Fashion Design such as: sector experience, professional portfolio, transversal skills and a specialist preparation.
Chiara Lecci is a former student who attended the Fashion Design course with a technical specialization in CAD Pattern Making at the Modartech Institute and now works in the Gucci footwear product development office.
I’m Chiara, I’m 24 years old and I live in Fucecchio (FI).
I graduated from the professional institute specializing in “Clothing and Fashion” where I got to understand that I had a strong interest in fashion and everything around it. I decided to continue cultivating my passion and I chose Modartech.
After some work experience I now work at Gucci, in the Footwear Product Development Office, where I am part of a team that deals with evaluating technical data sheets and bills of materials.
1. How has the experience lived between the classrooms and laboratories of the Modartech Institute contributed to your professional career?
Modartech has helped me to grow personally and professionally, it has given me the right practical and theoretical foundations to face the world of work thanks to classes with a small number of students and to the very close relationship between teacher and student.
Modartech trained me on the whole process, from the design to the creation of a fashion object, trained me on the use of digital and professional programs such as the CAD Lectra Suite.
The Institute also offered me the opportunity to participate in many projects, such as the Milano Moda Graduate event, organized by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana which for me was a truly exciting experience where I had the opportunity to see other aspiring works fashion designer and compare myself.
2. After completing the training course at Istituto Modartech, how was the first impact with the world of work?
The first impact with the world of work was positive, thanks also to the internship carried out at the end of the training course, I was able to present myself to companies with a valid curriculum without too many difficulties.
3. How did you become part of the Gucci world and what do you do within the Footwear Product Development Office?
I joined Gucci in October 2019 and immediately joined the team of the Footwear Product Development Office. During my day at Gucci I am always in close contact with suppliers and I participate daily in developments on materials, accessories, decorations, embroidery and packaging of the footwear product.
4. What advice do you feel to give to creative talents who dream of making a career in the world of fashion?
To those who want to pursue a career like my advice to always have a great desire to learn, to be flexible and versatile.
I also recommend never stopping and testing yourself to do what you really like, with people who make us feel good.
There will be obstacles, but my advice is never to break down because satisfactions will come.
From Gucci I learned the true meaning of the word “team”, I found close-knit, kind, humble teammates.
